Interesting facts (number 1)…….
I’m always interested to hear of new and unusual facts about the technical uses of gold. Well, here’s a new one I picked up from the UK’s Daily Telegraph newspaper. Apparently, when the Guinness Book of Records was looking to launch its new website, it decided to do so by producing the world’s smallest advertisement. Scientists at the Rutherford Appleton laboratory near Oxford produced a piece of film no wider than a human hair, which was stencilled in gold with guinessworldrecords.com, and tied it to the leg of a honey bee!

Fire Protection
This piece in the UK’s Daily Telegraph features the launch of a new advanced fireman helmet. Traditional it isn’t and the story likens the helmet to the head gear of a Star Wars stormtrooper.
The visor of the helmet has a gold-plated coating. The high reflectivity and low emissivity of gold, as well as its lack of tarnishing mean the metal is used in a number of applications in the control of radiant energy.
