For Trevor Keel,
I am interested in this Gold for Good article for three reasons. Firstly because I follow "all things gold" closely. And secondly because my company and I worked for the WGC about ten years ago, reanalysing the research that you had carried out on the demand for gold jewellery around the world - and I had not realised (and am most encouraged to learn) that the WGC also has an industrial team.

But more importantly, I am a member of the Royal Society of Medicine. It occurs to me that, if you and the WGC were interested in having a wider audience for the research that you have been carrying out on the applications of gold in the fields of medicine and diagnostics, it might be appropriate and helpful for you to address the sector group of the RSM who would be most receptive to this information.

If this is of interest to you, may I suggest that you should have a simple lunch with me at the RSM to talk this over? It would in any case be fascinating to meet you and learn more of what your team does. I see that you are darting around the world but I hope you will let me know if this idea appeals to you and if so, suggest one or two possible dates.

Yours sincerely

We would like to commend nanorods llc on their accomplishments. We would like to see this market finally reach its potential we make nano powders that are spherical in a enert vacuum chamber. We would be pleased to assist in bringing this material to market

This sounds like a great initiative, Richard. I think any gold researchers that want to commercialise their technology are in an excellent place to do so with the WGC and this new program. From my experience at Endeavour Capital we often find that we can't do as much in depth market research as we'd like to all the time, and so it becomes more about the researcher convincing us with the work they've done, which we then look to corroborate (much easier than doing it from scratch yourself). With the market knowledge of the WGC behind them, it should make it that much easier for researchers to do so and hopefully give gold technologies a better chance of being funded.

Although this comment is slightly delayed (due to ~3 weeks of backpacking around Germany), I would like to give a students impression of the Gold 2009 conference in Heidelberg.

My own work focuses on physical and wet chemistry of gold nanoparticles, of which there was a fantastic representation by several groups. Primarily, attention is given to optical properties of nanoparticles (in these groups) and how they change with shape etc.
Witnessing the improvements and depth of knowledge of gold/precious metal catalysts exhibited by various plenaries/invited/attendees highlights the rapidly increasing rate of catalysis research. Very enlightening.

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at GOLD 2009 where I was able to meet various figures in my own field of work as well as organisers and World Gold Council representatives.

Thanks WGC and all the Heidelberg Uni staff/locals who had a hand in hosting a great conference.

Cheers
